Royston Tan (4/14)

As a filmmaker, he spent years documenting the texture of Singapore’s social and physical landscape, tackling issues from censorship to gangsterism. He has an impressive filmography, ranging from feature films to music videos. This is all accompanied by an equally awe-inspiring list of over 75 awards, bestowed by prestigious international film festivals. Sadly, for all his success, it seems like locals aren’t as familiar with his work, with there being very little online chatter about him. Here is a sample of his work, titled “36 ways to say good morning”, which encapsulates the perspectives of multiple Singaporeans from different walks of life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMXunREyN3c&feature=youtu.be
